Wrightington, Wigan and Leigh NHS Foundation Trust has received a very generous donation from a member of staff who sky dived 14,000 feet whilst wearing all pink.
Kathryn Hunt, 57, from Hindley Green, Wigan, has worked for WWL’s South Lancashire Breast Screening Unit for 25 years, and was keen to raise money for the service through the Trust’s registered charity Three Wishes.
The sky dive was an adrenaline filled birthday gift from husband, Andrew, and her two sons Sam and Ben as well as her daughter in-law, Charlotte.
Kathryn travelled up to Cark Airfield, in South Cumbria, to complete the jump along with son, Ben, also taking part to celebrate his 30th birthday.
The idea to raise money whilst doing the dive came after Kathryn had seen other colleagues raising money to help improve their service.
Speaking on her pink themed fundraising Kathryn said; “I was so shocked when I found out I’d been booked on the skydive but it was the perfect opportunity to raise money for a cause that’s so close to me.
“This was definitely a once in a lifetime opportunity for me and I don’t think I’ll ever be asked to do it again.
“I was so nervous as we were going up in the plane but the views from the sky were breath-taking.”

The money raised by Kathryn will go towards the purchase of an additional ultrasound machine for the Breast Screening Service.
A JustGiving page was set up to allow family, friends and colleagues to donate money with Kathryn’s target set at £500.
In just one week Kathryn had raised £470 towards her goal. The money is still coming in and it currently stands at nearly £800.
Kathryn expressed, “If I got asked to do it again, I would do it tomorrow.”

“It’s brilliant to see a member of our team go the extra mile to help our provide our patients across South Lancashire with an even better service.”
